Silent Light is named a Finalist in 2025 International Opera Awards

On September 18, the International Opera Awards announced Paola Prestini and Royce Vavrek's Silent Light as a finalist in the World Premiere category of the 2025 International Opera Awards

Opening National Sawdust's 10th anniversary season, Silent Light was directed by Thaddeus Strassberger and conducted by Christopher Rountree. It is based on Carlos Reygada’s Acclaimed 2007 film about a fraught love story that unfolds in a Mennonite community in the plains of northern Mexico. Engaging the aural, visual, and olfactory, and harnessing the uniqueness of National Sawdust’s architecture and Meyer constellation sound system, the production immersed audiences in a socially cloistered and sensuously expansive environment.

Silent Light was produced in partnership between VisionIntoArt and National Sawdust and is Co-Commissioned by Trinity Church, Banff, and VisionIntoArt with support provided by Jeanne Giordano, Elizabeth Madigan Jost, Simon and Catriona Mordant, Jill and Bill Steinberg, Robert L. Turner, and Veronica Watson.
