Paola announced as Music Academy of the West composer-in-residence

Music Academy of the West announced its summer 2021 season, featuring more than 70 classical music events taking place in person in Santa Barbara, performed by more than 100 fellows on full scholarship and 65 faculty and teaching artists. Paola Prestini was announced as the festival's composer-in-residence.

The Vocal Institute will be highlighted in performances curated by faculty, led by Director of Music John Churchwell and Creative Director James Darrah. The singers and vocal pianists of the Vocal Institute will be featured in two special filmed productions. 21c Liederabend, op. M.A.W., a celebration of song by living composers, specially produced by Beth Morrison Projects, will be co‐curated and co‐directed by Beth Morrison and composer‐in‐residence Paola Prestini, and conducted by Daniela Candillari. The film will be premiered at a screening for a live audience in Hahn Hall.

"The Liederabend tradition began in the 19th century, a new form of entertainment that also brought composers and poets together to share new sounds and ideas. This multi-media piece for singers and instrumentalists will be screened in a special presentation and available online. Every ticket holder will receive an art object that complements the performance with an interactive experience. In collaboration with director Kathryn Hamilton, we have created an immersive storytelling experience. As composer in residence of the Liederabend, many of my works, including arias from Edward Tulane and the Yoani Song Cycle will be featured." – Paola Prestini
