Biking Through Time is a work written for the Brooklyn Youth Chorus inspired by Maria Popova's Brain Pickings. In this specific post, she compiled writings about the many things women could not do throughout time. I arranged it into a work for youth choir for the Brooklyn Youth Chorus' She is Called series. The series will premiere at Carolina Performing Arts and is a remarkable musical portrait of women’s experiences from biblical times to the present day, tracing a path from early texts by men about women to explorations of current themes through the work of contemporary women composers, including Shara Nova and Toshi Reagon.

I began with the map of a woman's heart from Victorian times, and did a dramaturgical study creating a text going from that map to biking rules for women in the late 1800's onto 1960's Spain, and finally to 1970's USA.
