Paola Prestini is probably best known as a composer, but her business card might more accurately read “human resources alchemist,” such is her gift for bringing together disparate artists, technicians and other creative professionals to produce cross-disciplinary works greater than the sum of their parts. As the guiding force of VisionIntoArt, a collective she helped to found in 1999, she has facilitated flamboyant, confounding and enticing collaborations among choreographers, visual artists, actors and composers, including her own well-traveled “Oceanic Verses.”

Now, Ms. Prestini is also the creative director of the Original Music Workshop, which on Tuesday evening staged an imaginative event, “The Violin,” in the Federal Hall National Memorial on Wall Street in Lower Manhattan. The workshop — despite its name, a similarly multidisciplinary arts organization — is building a state-of-the-art performance and rehearsal space in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, scheduled to open next year. But Ms. Prestini and her colleagues have already begun weaving themselves into the fabric of New York’s creative community with events in their unfinished headquarters and elsewhere around town.
